For those of you with OEM Trailer Hitches

I'm in the market for a trailer hitch for my plastic bumper e30. I like the idea of the factory hitch as it doesn't require drilling holes in the body. However, it seems as though the ball is a smaller diameter than those we normally see in the US. Question: if my trailer is set up for the larger size ball is there an adaptor or other solution to get it to work.

    TIA

I've been looking at hitches for my new late model. Ended up buying one of these aftermarket ones (link below) off ebay. I run a 2" ball for the E30 trailer so not sure if the OEM would have worked anyway.

That's a good point. I'm probably better off with a 2" ball as the trailer and bikes could exceed over 1000 pounds. Hate to drill holes in the car, but I guess I may need to. How was the install? I'll only towing a few times a year, do you think it's feasible to remove the hitch when I'm not using it? I can just imagine what I'm going to do to my shinns when I'm washing the car and forget that it's there.

      Cheers,
      Joe

Still waiting for mine in the mail. :)

I'll be happy to let you know how it goes. One thing I like about my early model hitch is the removable receiver, too bad the late model hitch doesn't have that!

Sounds great. Looking forward to hearing your impressions. Agree about the receiver hitch - one advantage of the diving boards....
