does anyone know what the extra wires are for that come through the firewall into the cab, attached to the main engine harness but dont plug into the ecu? there are like two plugs there?

That depends on what the production date your car is. Could you provide that infromation?The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

ok I have a 89 325ic with an auto tranny...I'm putting in a 90 325i harness in it. The 90i was a 5sp/4door car...this is why I ask the question the ic had two ends with three wires. The new harness has two plugs too but with like 5 wires and the plugs/connectors are different..???Comment

if i remember correctly one plugs into something that might connect with the obc (bk/pl?). I never connected those two with anything....never caused me any problems.Comment
