    M20 box on m50/m52

I know this has been covered here before but i cant find it..

What issues are there with using the m20 box on an m50/m52 conversion? How do you get round em? I know it sits wonkey so you need to bend the shift lever to get it to sit straight again.. other than that.. Dont you have to space the tranny mount slightly? Does it bolt straight up to the m50 lump?

I'd rather use the m20 box as it makes it alot easier to get the right ratio LSD..

No, not necessarily. There are modifications that must be done no matter which way you go. My thinking was that I already had a tranny and driveshaft that were in good condition and the modifications to the shift linkage and tranny bracket were relatively easy. Why spend more money on another tranny and driveshaft?

Correct. You need the M20 starter and flywheel along with the clutch kit. The flywheel needs to be shaved a bit on the forward/engine side for clearance (a good time to get it lightened) or you may need to shave down a couple of areas on the oil pan. The holes on the bottom of the oil pan/bell housing don't line up, so you just have to drill a couple of holes and run some bolts through to secure the pan to the housing. You also need play with the tranny bushing/bracket to make up for the rotation of the tranny. Finally, you may want to modify the shift linkage a bit to move the shift lever back to the stock location. I have heard of some people just leaving as it is and some people bending the shift lever. I actually prefer the option of cutting and re-welding the shift selector rod. I modified mine in this fashion about a year ago and haven't had any problems (and it has been *well* tested). This modification has also been done twice since then here locally.

How much 'playing' with does the tranny mount need?
