    Play in M roadster lever

I got my new M roadster shift lever back in October or so. I rebuilt the linkage with new nylon cup, washers, shifter bushing (in back of transmisson) and a new arm bushing (attached by bitch clip).

When I had the boot off I noticed that there is a significant amount of play in the shift lever. I was just wondering if anyone else has been having issues like this. I dont comprehend why the lever even has a rubber buffer, and why it wasnt solid. Its almost like the rubber has shrunk.

I dont shift very hard, probably havent even put 5000 miles on the car since the swap. Are the z4 levers soild? I know that the old e30 lever didnt have that rubber buffer inside it.

none of the bmw shifters are verry good in terms of feeling solid they all have lots of play thats the downside to the Z4 shifter, check out a B&M shifter and see if its solid, its cheaper then the UUC one its worth checking out.

mine has a small amount of play, even with rebuilt shift linkage, but nothing as bad as the stock...

The little orange buffer probably compressed or degraded. Put a chunk of urethane in there or something.

Hmm. It doesnt bother me too much, especially since I had a piece of spaghetti in there before. I may look for something down the road, but for now its no big deal, just wondering if I was alone.
