The blower for the inside of the car, or the radiator fan?

I'm pretty sure the fan blows under different conditions, especially when idling while stopped, not sure what that has to do with the A/C.

Your system is probably running on rc134a refrigerant which isn't as efficient as r12. Virtually all cars from the '80's just aren't going to have cold A/C because they have been converted. All you can really expect is cooled air, not so much cold.

He is probably referring to the aux fan in front of the a/c condenser. When it gets old, it starts blowing fuses and you lose a/c when stopped or in slow traffic. Replace it and you'll be set.

Well, you can try your luck at the salvage yard, you can substitute in another 14" pusher (make sure it's shrouded - I have a 14" perma-cool that I took out because it moves a huge amount of air anywhere but through the condenser), or you can buy a new aux fan from Tischer or RM European or another vendor.

Edit: Also, you can pull the fuse for the aux fan and then use the A/C freely as long as you're moving at a good clip.
