    Instrument cluster Question

    I have a 1987 Oct, series 2 320i coupe. (i think its a series 2)
    its an auto m20.

The Instrument cluster in my car doesn't work, but i found one on ebay for a e30 318 circa 1984-1988.. it uses blue, white, and yellow plugs. Will it work. How can i be sure?

The whole cluster won't work? Then it's highly unlikely that a new cluster will solve your problems...

The right cluster for this car would be one from a similar vintage 320 or from a 9/86-8/87 325is. The 317 cluster's tach and fuel gage won't work properly. And I agree with hara, if nothing on the cluster is working a replacement cluster isn't likely to fix it. If the temp gage and econometer are the problem, you need to replace the SI board. Otherwise you need to check the fuses & ground for the cluster.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

there like that from factory, u need to get an ohm meter and check the batteries. You can replace them if you are handy otherwise have someone with electrical experience replace them for u.
