    Valve spring question?

    How did the S50 & S52 get away with or why did they go with a single valve spring? Is there any benifit to useing the duel valve springs from my 92 head to the single oens used on the M3s? I know the M3s springs are good for 8k rpm that is why I am leaning towards those but give me some idea.

    IIRC, and someone correct me if I'm wrong..

    Technology caught up to Motorsport, the single valve spring is tough enough to take the beating. It also means less weight, and less strain on valves and valve guides. I've seen people run dual valve springs on S50's and S52's, but they usually do the solid lifter (was it the lifter?) conversion as well.

    I'm assuming you're talking about a '92 M50 head? If so, you should already have dual valve springs.. It was in '93 if I'm not mistaken that they did away with the dual valve springs and the rumpy cams and put in single VANOS.

      are duals necesarry for 7k rpm anyways even for th e m20? The 323i revs to 7k with single valve springs.....

        I have both a 92 and 93 head torn apart. I am going to use the 93 head and try and combine the best of both worlds with some improvements.
