    Gauge cluster lights dim

I tried searching, but couldnt find anything that helped.

My gauges are very very dim, but it doesnt appear that any bulbs are burned out. Every gauge is lit...but so dim i can barely make out the gauges. Any help is appreciated.

Turn your headlight switch. It controls the brightness of the gauge cluster.

Replace the bulbs in the cluster, they are pretty cheap.

They get dim? I didnt think a bulb could just get that dim..unless it burnt out.

Perhaps the rheostat in the headlight switch is going bad... try another headlight switch. They can be had for cheap from a junkyard.

Don't you gotta pull the dash to do that?

Hit the dash in the center some. Our cars love to do funny things if there is something loose.

I had the same problem on my previous e30. The instrument cluster is pretty easy to get out and play with. The bulbs are obvious to change. Here's what NOT to do: I found the same size bulbs with slightly higher wattage (seems like it was 3w replaced with 5w, but I'm not sure). Anyway, it looked GREAT when I put them in. Right up until they melted the orange lens covers...
