    Blower motor grinds??

For a while now my blower motor hasn't worked. Found out that one of the cages had exploded, so I took the mint condition one out of my 84 325e and put it in my 88 325is. Measured the one good cage on my busted motor and it was the same size as the one out of the 325e.

I put it in and it works fine on speeds 1 and 2, but on 3 and 4 the cage starts grinding/rubbing on the black housing. There's only like 1mm of space between the cage and the housing on the driver's side, but at least 3mm on the passenger's side. If I pull the motor towards the passenger side, the noise goes away. I put it in exactly like the original one. wtf? :(

Those blower motors can be tricky to get back in just right. If the blue wire connection is not at the top of the housing then you have not installed it properly. You should not be able to disconnect the blue wire with the motor in place properly with out pulling the motor forward. I would bet that you have not seated the motor right and therefor it is not centered!
The difference between porcupines and BMWs is that porcupines have the pricks on the outside!

That's what I don't get, the blue wire is at the top and I think the brown one is right around the middle. I can spin it freely by hand. I just can't get it to move over to the passenger's side. I just want the stupid thing to work so I can have a/c. :(

It took me hours to get mine positioned correctly. Just keep it open and rotate it/ adjust it . You have to strap it down, then turn it on to test it. It was a complete pain in the ass, but when I found the sweet spot, I took a sharpie and traced where it goes in case I have to take it back out again..

        Good luck
