    How lucky am I!!!!!!

I am in the midst of t-belt and water pump replacement. When I pulled the water pump, off falls the t-belt tensioner pin and spring. They were just laying on top of the water pump.

I am not sure what could have happened, but whatever it was, it didn't as the car is just fine. I am assuming that it could have resulted in a loosened tensioner, and hence belt which probably would have been just as bad as a broken one.

Dodged a bullet, I think.

when you try to put it back together the light will come one and this post will be imbarassing.

why would the light come on? the only damage that can happen from a Tbelt falling off is smashing your engine to bits, if that didn't happen then he doesn't have any problems, unles it slipped a bit... even then he could just re-aline everything before he puts it back on.

Becuase of what John A said over on Roadfly. IF you still had both bolts torqued down for the t-belt tensioner, and removed that watter pump you just removed the item the tensioner springs seats against. There is a little dimple in the pump housing where the end of the pin sits, the belt will still be tensioned without the spring. The spring assembly is only for intialy tensioning the belt, then from there the two bolts hold that tension.

Thanks, Ely - I saw that over there right after I checked here this morning.

I am not embarrassed, but glad to know it was no big deal.

sorry just got back to this with all the extra clicking (sorry Kristen)

yes the springs rear is mounted to the waterpump and when you removed it the rear location point was gone so it fell off. No big deal but just a couple of hours of stress or relief that was missplaced. Do the front seal if you have time.

Did the seal - might as well since I'm in there.
