    Spinning sound in tach

Just about a week ago, a noise kind of like a spinning started in my instrument cluster of my new 86 325eS. It gets higher with revs, like when i'm going through the gears, and stops when I put the clutch in. It started out fairly faint, but is getting to be slightly louder and it remains while in gear. It's definitely coming from the cluster, I can hear it in there. I'm almost postive it's the gears in the tach, since it changes with revs. Any ideas? Should I just replace the tach, and see if that fixes it?

if the tach is holding posistion then the gears are not moving. I've heard of the batteries buzzing when they are about to fail (like an elecrical hum from the SI board)

Not that it's TOO big of a deal, but I just thought I would let everyone know that I fixed the noise, quite by accident actually.

I had my steering wheel unbolted, with the cover off because I was adjusting it, and I noticed that the sound seemed louder with the cover off. I put my hand over the opening that the cover goes over, and the noise got substantially quieter.

I stuck my finger on top of the hole in the center of the shaft where the bolt for the steerng wheel goes, and the noise dissapears altogether.

I think that the noise was just engine/valvetrain noise, being amplified by coming through that small hole. I just took a peice of this nice, squishy foam-rubber stuff that I lined the drawers of my toolbox in, jammed it in there nice and tight, and not a sound. I love it when there's a simple fix. :D

Yes, I know that it sounds like one of those "ignore the noise and it will go away" kind of things, but everything is running fine, and I'm doing a valve adjustment soon.
