Okay, I'll give you guys the background. I'm converting a Seiko compressor over to a Denso. The Seiko compressor was so bad that the dye sprayed all the way on the hood from the front seal, so I knew it had to go. I have two good Densos, so I'm making the move.
I bolted in the Denso and everything hooked right up. There is a 3-wire plug for the Seiko and only a 1-wire plug for the Denso. After looking at the Seiko plug for a second, I could see the top 2 wires looped back on each other and are just grounds. The bottom one is the power for the Denso and I hooked it up according. After mounting the Denso, I charged it and everything is/ was working (it had already been converted to a134). After the AC starting blowing cold, I thought I was in the up and running until....
Everything just shut off. I did some basic troubleshooting and noticed that fuse #20 is DOA. So, I replace it with another 30amp fuse.. It last 3-4 minutes and blows too. So, the AC is working, but only for 3-5 minutes before the fuse goes. Here's what I've done so far:
1) Made sure the power wire connecting the condenser is okay. I found a crack and taped it up, but it didn't make a difference.
2) I know that fuses number #3, 18, 19 & 20 are all aux fan fuses. Even though the other fuses are okay, I disconnected the aux fan. It didn't help, the fuse still blows.
3) The fuse will still blow even if the ignition is in ACC and the car is off. The wires get really hot going to the switch. I checked the wires all the way back and didn't see any cracks or splices. So I pulled the AC switch and tried another, it did not make a difference.
4) I looked at the compressor really well and cleaned (what looks like) the ground wires from the clutch to the body of the compressor. I also looked to see if it needs and grounding strap to the body. But doesn't look that way. After cleaning it, the fuse still blew.
5) Also, the blower motor has been working fine. It worked through the winter and I can leave it on for hours and the fuse/ switches are fine. So, I don't think it has anything to do with the blower motor.
What else runs from fuse #20?
