      ..and it's not the "hot start" problem. my car starts any idles just fine. the hesitation is when it is cold or hot, no difference

        Your AFM is bad. I would put money on it. Try cleaning that bitch out and see if it helps.

              the hot start problem wasnt a hot start problem with mine, it happened all the time, idle, taking off from a stop, had to rev it up to like 3K to get it to go anywhere....took me forever to figure it out then one day i saw that thread and disconnected that piece, and boom it was fine.

              did you check the TPS? the screws that held mine on were rusted to shit so it was kinda loose, i replaced then with some stainless steel hex bolts and it was tight and helped out in my case.

              kinda looks like you did the "clean the mess up under the intake mod" on the m42, maybe the line coming from the ICV is collapsing under the vaccuum it creates, think thats only an idle problem though, couldnt help to check it out, what i did was put a straight line hard plastic coupler right in the middle to strengthen the hose. just my two cents, hope you figure it out.

                Had the same problem with a 318is I recently acquired. Pulled plugs, which were fine. Threw on a set of wires I had laying around. Did the trick. If you can locate a spare set of known good sparkplug wires, it's fairly quick to check to make.

                    Fixed! It turned out to be the fuel pump. The hose that connected the pump to the carrier inside the tank some how slipped halfway off. I put in a longer hose so now it will be impossible for it to slip off again.

                          Yeah i think this only applies to aftermarket fuel pumps like Walbro and Tre. the oem pump has a plastic/metal piece that wedges in and shouldn't come apart.
