    Headliner "insulation/foam" part number?

Trying to find pn for the yellow foam type material that's attached to the sunroof cassette etc above the headliner.

I believe it's #12, but no pn listed?

    As far as I can tell the trim - sound insulating cover - is 54 12 1 906 809 .
    Only other likely part is trim sliding roof, 54 12 1 906 590 .

Looking at your pictures, it looks like the sound insuilating cover 809 is for INSIDE the panel, 590 is for the back of the cassette and 54 12 1 924 517 is the set that includes the part 590 plus the part to the side of the cassette. At least this is what the EPC/ETK drawings lead me to believe.

I wonder if because you are searching under 318. I think I have one upstairs. Are you looking for one?

nmlss2006 - thanks for finding that, I wonder if the 517 is NLA since the 589 and 590 are NLA. I'll check with the dealer tomorrow.

I also found some more insulation stuff here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...27&hg=51&fg=70

          51481906391 / 51481906392 and 51481906381/382.

Levent - let me see what I find out tomorrow since it might be cheaper to buy these locally w/o shipping, if these are NLA I will contact you :)

I wonder if that's for the solid roof cars? 5 and 6 would be cool, they're the foam pads that the old cars have, I think...

Good point, might be just for solid roof cars. I will need 51481906381 382 for sure though..the old stuff is garbage.

I was thinking about using stuff from the Second Skin guys. Their sprayable/sludge products look potentially interesting, though I'd ask them before using on the roof of a car in CA. If one were to spray the WHOLE sheetmetal interior of the car enough to get a significant thickness, I'd say that the improvement should be massive.

Would probably be good for inside the doors and rear panels, but maybe not so much on the roof? I don't really want to add lots of weight or reduce the noise, it's just the one on the car was in crappy condition so I ripped it out etc. I think i'll just go with a stock replacement so that everything fits correctly

Yes I'm sort of uncertain. The heat is one concern, the weight possibly another, though this is probably not very heavy stuff. On the other hand, the original foam is mostly there for cosmetic purposes and if it can't be found, alternatives must be found.

not to thread hijack, but do you know of any place that sells aftermarket headliners. I didnt have one when I bought the car, and the parts car I have, its headliner is already ripped.
