Question about the MEtric Blue headBolts

Just a bit of education cause it bugs me. They arent metric blue head bolts, they are Socket Head Cap Screws, they are blue because blue indicates they are metric threaded, hence metric blue. They arent made to be used as head bolts, they are just bolts. Someone asked if they make them for XXX, they make them in several metric sizes, they come in M10x45 or M8x25 etc...

Decoding: M10x45 is a 10mm diameter (at the thread) and is 45mm long from the bottom of the head.

an M10 does not use a 10mm hex wrench, it uses an 8mm hex wrench, etc...

M10 does not stand for the engine but it means Metric, diameter 10 etc...

Thank you. I hate when the uneducated think metric blue is a brand name or something. Its just a blue coating on a generic metric bolt that just happens to have a size that fits a m20.

The M10 bolts should be the same as for the M30 block which is an M10 + 50% bonus cylinders ;-)

yea thats what im woundering? does anyone know if they make them for an m10 i know they arent the same as m20 bolts. does anyone have info on this?

Your best bet is to find the thread pitch, size, length of the M10 bolt and cross reference it on the site that sells the ones for the m20. I don't have the info off hand, but If I have time I will look into it for you and post back here.

both torx and hex bolts for the m20 are torque to yeild. As far as brand I have no idea if there is a difference. I just installed my 731 head on my eta block and I used the Metric Blues with the copper gasket spray and using the procedures written at e30tech. I have no leaks of any kind and had no problems torquing them down.

go to e30tech.com and go to the turbo section. There is a sticky thread there with all you need to know. Cost me $36.something shipped to my door.

Whats special about the metric blue bolts?
Are they just like any Metric 12.9 Socket head Capscrews (say like brands such as UNBRAKO, YFS etc? What is the recommended tightening torque and tightening procedure?

What grade are the replacement torx ones plus the original hex head OEM ones. Are both the torx and OEM hex head ones torque to yield or only the torx ones?

i know lots of guys who have used internal hex bolts, never a problem.

the hex style heads are what everyone says to stay away from. boltheads flying off and whatnot. late style female torx is what you want

No, the head bolts are not reuseable. But they're only $24 from Bav. Auto.

24$ american? holy crap i can get them for 10$ can. localy with the hex style heads.

im using them for every engine now, kicks the arse out of the tty bolts bmw use, dont have to worry about one snapping and trashing my cam and wrecking my head 8)
