    Changing fuel pump

Well, I have already removed the old pump. I was comparing the two, and noticed that the new one has an extra "pipe". On the old one, it seems to have been blocked off from the factory. I checked the part numbers and they both show up for my model.

New on the left and Old on the right.

    Old: 16-14-1-179-992
    New: 16-14-1-181-075

The extra "pipe" seems to be just an open tube. Can I just block it off with the rubber cap that was on the end? Do I have the wrong part?

    TIA

It's probably a fuel return line that was needed on newer/different models. You should just be able to cap it.

Thanks for the reply. What would be the best way to clamp it?

i just changed my 91 318is.. it has both hard lines on top, with two hoses connecting. both of the lines contain gas. when i took off one line, the other lost pressure and spit gas out, a lot of gas.

kind of odd if you ask me...

not trying to thread jack, but.
on mine... the bag on the bottom... the end is open... is that bad?
