    gas mileage gauge aka econogauge...

mine has stopped working... it worked up until about a month or 2 ago... if i am driving and i let off the gas at lets say... 45mph and let the car coast in gear the gauge goes all the way to 40mpg or whatever, then if i give it any gas floored or cruising at 45 it goes to about 4/5 mpg and sits there, it will not sit anywhere in between. if i sit at a stop in neutral the gauge goes to 0 (if i remember correctly)

    any idea's?

My first suspicion would be a bad SI board.

what else could tell me if it is the si board? all my other gauges work (except coolant temp which hasn't in about a year for a believe a bad sensor) and my service lights aren't on.

An in-op temperature gage can also be a sign of a bad SI board.

the si batteries, what is the easiest way to remove them? i have practiced on a few you pull it yard cars and it seems like alot of them were glued to the board and a bitch to get off...

When considering replacement of the SI board batteries the first thing to do is to critically examine the board looking for any sign or corrosion from leaking batteries. If there is any evidence of that, replacement of the batteries is probably a waste of time. The batteries are glued to the PCB and that glue will have to be cut to replace the batteries.

can i replace it with any working si board? or do i have to be specific with the replacement? if that is needed. i have been browsing all the si board and si battery diy threads trying to gather info.

motometer and vdo si boards are interchangable. could be a bad connection, i've seen mpg meter not work yet the temp and all other gauges work...

theres a 7.5A fuse in the engine compartment that i found blown when my tach/MPG meter stopped working, also at the same time, my radio, and dome lights weren't working. I replaced that 7.5A fuse and everything BUT the econometer works.

that definitely is a weird problem. Not too sure on that Robsgotit, im still sans-econometer, i like to see it move when i drive... and now im a sad camper.
