    Power sunroof not stopping where it should

    Just today my power sunroof quit stopping in the right spot when closing it. If it's fully open and I close it, it just goes right on through the closed position and pops up the rear. It does this both ways. Has anyone had this happen before and what was the fix? If not where should I look, is there a relay dedicated to this function?

    Resync it. Not to hard, takes 20 minutes if you know what you are doing. Check it out in the Bentley and go from there.

      I can't find anything on resyncing the sunroof in the Bentley... All I could find was removing the sunroof panel, adjusting the fit, and a wiring diagram that doesn't really give me any hints on what needs to be adjusted.

          yeah, the bentley doesn't say shit about the sunroof. i just replaced my tracks and while my roof works now, it stops in the wrong places, so I too would like to know about resyncing.

            I have done this to mine and seemed to work:

            Press forward button and take note of where sunroof stops. If there is a gap get a rule and measure the gap - or note if it goes over and the back starts to lift.
            Remove metal sunroof panel.
            Press retract button and retract it about 1/2 way.
            Press forward button until tracks stop moving. (if you have back lift you will see the roof brackets raise.)
            Measure from front of mounting point to front edge of hole in roof. Both sides should be the same.
            Now - undo the screws that are holding the motor - you don't have to remove the motor just ensure that it disengages from the spiral wires.
            You can now move the tracks manually either forward (if there was a gap - move forward the amount of gap) or back (if you had the back lift - until the roof brackets are just no longer lifting).
            Ensure that both sides are the same otherwise the roof will jam.
            Carefully re-engage the motor and tighten screws.
            Put the roof back on - cycle back and forward to ensure in correct place - if not just redo this procedure.

            I am not sure if this is the correct way - but it worked for me

              mmm, taking the headliner out again. Fun. Isn't that little silver relay next to the motor supposed to tell it when to stop?

                  I found a write-up for resynchronizing the sunroof on an e34 that I'll try later on mine:

                  To set the sunroof so that it is closed correctly when the motor stops:

                  1-pop open square trim panel in headliner between sunroof and windshield that covers the motor with a flat blade screwdriver. it comes off fairly easily

                  2-using the sunroof crank in the tool kit, crank the sunroof until it is perfect- should be just a hair higher in the back than the roof of the car.

                  3-unbolt the motor using the two (torx or phillips screws), pull it straight down to remove it- hold it up with your hands don't let it dangle by the wires- you may need help, but I did it alone.
                  4-turn key on so that sunroof button will power motor- I think first position works.

                  the good part: the motor "knows" when to stop based on an internally cammed switch- you can watch the thing work as you push the buttons- one touch it forward and it goes until the little lobe of the cam turns it off- same story for open. so..

                  5- push the sunroof button to make the motor go back as if it's opening the panel, then use the one touch feature on the button as if to close it. the motor will stop thanks to the little cammed switch.

                  6- carefully put the motor assembly back in - engaging the worm drive on the motor to the cable- may take some slight jiggling. tighten the two retaining screws that you took out.

                  So now the motor thinks it's closed right where you've positioned the sunroof to be perfect.

                  check by opening and closing the sunroof. I had to readjust motor twice to get it perfect as it was just a tad off the first time. But it took me longer to write this that it took to actually do it.

                        No, the headliner that covers the sunroof motor. You can't get to all the motor bolts through the little access cover in the headliner, can you? If so, then I dunno what I'm bitching about.
