trying to figure out

I am trying to find out when they stopped putting two fuel pumps in cars. I have an '88 325is. I know of the one under the rear seat, but when or if I disconnect the batt. then reconnect the batt. I hear a buzzing/wheering sound. I'm not sure if it is the pump under the rear seat, or if it is something else.

If I do have two pumps...where is the second one? I have never seen it. I hope someone can answer this for me. THANX!

If you have the second pump, it is located near the left rear wheel, just in front of the rear subframe.
