    ? on short throws

Does anyone know how good the BavAuto short throw kits are? im looking for one and the second kit comes with a new selector rod. Thats already angled. I have the drive shaft with the balancer and im concerned about it rubbing. Let me know

Thats the kit im talking about.

    Brian

P.S. Also if i do get this one can i get the upgrades from UUC like the Delrin bushings and the bearings and such?

I'd personally just go for the z3 shifter. Its about 70 bucks, a friend of mine has it, and he/we love it. You just gotta bend the selector rod a little. Dunno where to tell you to look though, I'm starting to look myself. Probably ebay.

i agree. although i would go for the Z4 shift lever ($50). i really like how the gate seems to be moved forward and requires a more horizontal movement to shift (due to the straight shift lever), it makes it easier to throw it into gear, and feels alot more precise than stock.

Don't waste your money on big bucks shift kits. Get the Z3 SSK from BMA. For under $70 bucks, you get everything you need.

Im really not worried about spending $$ on this stuff, im looking for a really precise shift. I dont want any side to side movement or sloppyness, Dont the stock upgrades get sloppy really fast because they still use the cheesey plastic bushings and such. Thanks

That stuff takes a long time to wear out. If you are really that worried, get the Derlin carrier bushing from UUC, and do the 'bitch clip" mod that Jordan did to his tranny, by replacing the bitch clip at the end of the linkage with a brass bolt. Contact him to find out more about it. The Z3 kit offers nearly the same throw reduction as the UUC kit, and is $150 cheaper. The Bav Auto and BMP kits are garbage.

Ok, how bout the B&M kit on turner VS the EVO3 UUC they seem pretty nice. Both have a sealed bearing around the ball instead of the nylon cup and grease. PLUS i wont have the tranni out of the car for a year or two so that bitch clip thing is out of the question for the moment. Thanks

                Brian

P.S. Im much more interested in having high quality product than saving money.

that nylon cup does a pretty good job, and i dont see how that could contribute to shifter slop, but i could be wrong

If thats the case FORGET ABOUT THE Z3 lever. It is equivalent to a stock e30 shifter which has been cut.

You need a Z4 lever with all the bushings replaced. Then you'll get the feel you want.

So with the Z4 lever, a bent selector rod, and a totally rebuilt shift assembly (bushings,pins,clips,etc...) I would have a nice tight, short shift that will last and not have DAYS of side to side movement. Does anyone have ALL the PN's for this application? Thanks

                      Brian

P.S. How much +- will this cost?

I just tryed the Z3 1.9L lever and I didnt really like it, I am gonna take it back and either get the 2.8L Z3 or posibly the Z4. I really need to find out whats the differance between the 2.8L Z3 and the Z4, this info would be great....

                        Thanks

Check the FAQ section of the forum. It has a thread about short shifters. And go with the Z4 3.0 lever.

So why do people have to bent the selector rod? Whats the point? And can us shadetree mechanics do that in our garage? I'm planning on getting a Z4 lever on my 318is. Any troubles you think?
