Another My Bimmer Wont Start Thread

1986 325 (american e model) oil light came on yesterday checked oil and was a little above the add mark so i figured that in the next couple of days i'd go buy a quart and top her off. Went to start my car this morning pumped the gas three times and turned the key. Car dosen't catch and makes a screeching sound because i have a chipped tooth on my flywheel (this happens ocasionaly). So i pop the hood get out into the pouring rain and crank the engine a little by pulling on the alternator belt. I got back in the car and turned the key. The engine is cranking and usually it takes about 4 to 7 seconds to start when cold. Engine keeps cranking and cranking and dosent start. So i get out and start checking for losse wires or anything silly that might be keeping the car from starting. I checked the oil and it is now below the add mark. car will not start. What are your thoughts?

Pumping the gas pedal only opens the throttle plate. If you do this prior to turning the key it won't have any effect. Either way the car should start right up without having to play with the throttle. Check to see if it's getting spark and fuel. If it generally takes a few seconds to start then I'd lean toward a fuel delivery issue. Bentley has the procedures for diagnosing these problems.

So possibly a fuel delivery issue. I have a brand new fuel transfer pump even though a bad one wouldnt prevent the car from starting. If the main pump went out would the transfer pump be able to atleaststart the car?

Why did you oil light come on if there was enough oil? Usually it has to be pretty far under the add mark for your lol to come on.

The oil lights unrelated so i pulled the spark plugs and replaced them because they were severely corroded. 1 didn't even have a gap it was corroded solid. Would this much corrosion wear down the ignition coil? I replaced the spark plugs and still no luck.

But why did your oil light come on when you had enough oil? It maybe unrelated but dont you think thats a problem too? Until you fix that, why bother moving onto something else.
