2 Tranny Questions: Throwout Bearing and Tranny Input Shaft

hi all again, thanks for everyone's help in this thread:

i finally managed to get my tranny off. the top-most bolt was already loose :( so i just used my fingers and took it off. the top starter motor bolt was a B*TCH, but my tools and i got it off within a couple of hours.

anyways, i realized what was wrong with the tranny/clutch. i'm doing a clutch job because my clutch pedal wouldn't go down no matter how hard i tried, and the master/slave cylinders were good and the system had adequate fluid with no air bubbles.

the thing is, when i got the tranny off, the throwout bearing seemed to be stuck on the input shaft. it won't budge, and frankly, it looks detonated, haha.

my first question is: is it safe to use a gear puller to get the throwout bearing off the tranny input shaft?

my second question is: i noticed that my tranny input shaft had about 2-3mm of play up and down (not in and out of the tranny). is my tranny still ok to use? :( hopefully yes

    thanks again to everyone!

You can use a puller on the throw out bearing, but if it is stuck on the input shaft there is an excellent chance of damage to the shaft. In which case the shaft needs to be replaced during a transmission rebuild or the transmission needs to be replaced.

The play in the transmission input shaft is normal.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

or rusted on. Id be looking for a new shaft or talk to a machine shop about getting it machined.
