    wierd squeaking

I have done a search and can not figure out what is going on. I have a very loud squeak when I first start my car. It does not matter if the car is cold or warm, whenever i start it it squeaks and squeals for about 5 min until i start driving for a bit.i have checked all my belts and they seem to be tight enough. It is definitely coming from the front of the engine bay. Does anyone know if if the fan clutch ever start making this noise or the power steering pump?

    Any help would be great.

Gotta love looking like a jackass when your car squeals on startup, lol.

Long shot but, is your alternator sitting straight?

....Had the same kind-of problem on my eta, belt squeaks on start-up even thou they're new and tight...Alternators rubber mounting "bushing" was worn to shit, so it was sitting crooked. One junk yard replacement later, problem solved.

Yeah bad description skills on my part there.

So....Simplest way for me to explain that: Alternator has 2 bolts holding it in place, the upper tension adjusting one, and a lower one which just rotates. The bottom bolt goes through a rubber sleeve, this is what was worn out in my case.

Since certain engine sounds can be difficult to diagnose, if you think it might be coming from the fan clutch just remove your mechanical fan and run the car to see if it goes away. Simple diagnostic and as long as you are not sitting in traffic on a 100 degree day you can safely run your engine without it for diagnostic purposes.

ok so i went to take out the fan clutch and I can;t get to it. It left me scratching my head. It seems on my newer '89 engine that there are coolant hoses that stop you from getting access.Do I have to undo all the hoses...wtf!

You should not have to undo all the hoses. Try coming up from the bottom or at an angle. You might want to remove the airbox to gain some more access to that area.

Mark: "Didn't you just break a rocker arm?"
Me: "Yeah, I don't think I've learned my lesson."
                    Mark: "You never will."
