What our cars are telling us. laptop on a normal ecu

    Hey,

I always wanted to know if there is a bit of sofyware out there that a can plug into my 87 325is and read what my ecu is telling me, also if there is 1 that can read my ABS computer. I know that bmw has such software, but in Australia (where i live) thay can't sell it to the public . If anybody has such software or knows where i can get it, i would love to know. i was told that there is a program called Car Scanner that well give u realtime reading of you ecu. Now thats cool, and handy.

Its the diagnostic machine that BMW dealers use. Start saving now, they cost over $17k.

It wouldn't do a whole lot for our cars though, at least not much more than a OBD1 code reader would.

Yeah, but it does give readouts on everything he asked about.

Anyone have experience with the "BMW diognostic interface" that sells for $69 on eBay?

BMW diognostic interface for most BMW from 1988 to 2001

You need the round 20 Pin diagnostic socket

              Software and instructions in english

The interface can be used in conjunction with free software to turn your laptop or desktop computer into a fairly sophisticated auto diagnostic system. The program has a built-in database of more ththe most bmw trouble codes, and allows you to read and erase stored trouble codes. On CD is the manual how to use the interface and to turn off the MIL ("Check Engine" light), and oil service light.

              motor control DME/DDE
              combination instrument
              airbag
              ABS/ASC
              on board computer
center body electronics (window lifter, ZV, SHD)
              transmission control
              air conditioning system
all service reset with Interface (PIN 7)

If you get a diagnostic scanner it will work, but the interface on E30 ECUs is so slow that you can't have much fun with it. The refresh rate for all the info takes forever.
