Joe is the man isn't he. I met him on Easter and he's been a huge help for me the last few months.

Yup, I've helped him part out several cars in no time flat. Always good working with and doing business with Joe.

Just got back in from China....anyhow.........As long as you have the Unichip tuned by one of their technicians on one of their setups (ie dyno & software) then you'll be good to go until you change something else in your engine.

In order to get the MAF to communicate you have to switch the Unichip to a different mode....sorry I forgot the name right now, but will check my notes at the office. Also, you have to convert the voltage and know what all the wires are for....I should have the diagram at the office.

One thing to note is that you will not have an air temperature sensor since it works differently on the MAF (basically no sensor like in the AFM) but it's ok since the ECU will default to 16 or 18 C. If you choose to run it this way then you'll have to close off the air temp sensor wire. On the other hand, Calvin Tan removed his air temp sensor from his old AFM and drilled a hole into the bottom of his MAF and inserted the sensor into the airstream and then wired it up. Worked good for him, and I'm planning on doing the same but I'll insert the sensor in my aluminum intake elbow closer to the throttle body.

Anyhow, that's the gist of it, but I'll be in the office tomorrow morning and I'll check my notes......sorry it's been a while.

Take a look at the MSnS Extra code - it is PACKED full of amazing features. You can use it without spark, but why not just add ignition control?

You also will not need a MAF as the MAP sensor is in the unit - which I might add is less restrictive than the probe inside the MAF. There are some base maps that can get you running right away and it is easy to wire up.
It's a halfass setup running mostly old GM crap retrofitted for newer cars. I've yet to see it ever tuned properly, either on the internet or in real life. It's not cheap to get all the parts, and when you factor in the time it takes to make it actually run even halfway decent, you'd be way ahead of the game if you went with a real solution such as an SMT6 or Unichip.

            Megasquirt is shit.

Jordan, for now, grab yourself a stock chip and a stock working M20 AFM. Don't even take the time trying to fuck with an aftermarket setup if you have a long drive. When you get down to texas, then you can start playing with the motor.

            -Charlie
I hadn't heard of Megasquirt until e30tech. And their fellows praise it. Of course......

I'd agree. For some reason my M30 AFM hackjob went to shit. And I had to have my mother drive to Purdue to bring up my factory one. It wouldn't hurt to have a pare on you. (even if the M30 AFM is perfect, being your OCD self, haha)

I think the MAF will be a great mod to open up the 2.8, obviously. Good luck man. (btw, sell me your M30 AFM ;))

The Unichip needs to be set to "Coarse" mode.

Re converting the voltages.....can't find the notes, sry.....but I'm sure the tuner will know a solution.

As far as wiring, I only have the Split Second wiring harness diagram, which is below:

              Red - Switched battery positive
              Black - Power ground
              Brown - Signal ground
              Green - Voltage output

Don't know if the stock harness uses the same colors.

I apologize for the lack of details but I've misplaced the notes I had.....afterall it was nearly a year ago. Anyhow, hope this helps.

Also, good luck in Austin.....great town ;) I'm from Ft. Worth originally, and since I've been overseas somebody built a racetrack country club just south of Ft. Worth called Motorsport Ranch. It should only be an hour & half drive from Austin, so it might be worth checking out in your stroker ;)

Well this is wonderful. The place that agreed to do the install and tuning for me has now backed out. Apparently their welcome at Unichips R&D facility has been worn thin. They will not be able to do any more tuning until their dyno gets installed about 8wks from now. Obviously too late for my time frame.

This sucks, and no one else in Oregon is a licenced tuner for Unichip.

Now what am I supposed to do.

That really sucks. Maybe you could rent a car, buy a cheap trailer to tow your car in + your other big valuables and then just have it worked on in Austin?

I'm not towing my car. I don't want to drive my car that far, let alone some shitbox truck/uhaul.

Am I missing something , wheren´t you going to drive down there anyway?

EDIT : Missed the pingin problem,
now that is a problem since you want good mileage and no pinging,
mayb upping the fuel pressure a little to overcome the pinging for the road would do the trick but yeld worse mileage, unless your willing to go for another diff ratio while on the road for so long :)

I don't see how upping the fuel pressure would help. I am already running rich with plenty of headroom.

Maybe see if you can get an Alpina or Hartge stroker chip for the trip down. I know others have had relative success using them.

I have a friend with a Alpina b27 chip, I'm planning on trying that out shortly.

The chip may help, but it will at least raise your rev limiter......I have the Alpina B3 chip....... Re Unichip, ck their US website for dealers on the West Coast......I know there are quite a few in California ;)
                                Good luck.
