    Fuel system problem. Please help!

I have a fuel tank and idle problem with my 88’ 325is. When I got it, it had 2 problems:

    1. The fuel gage did not work
    2. I would run out of gas after going through 9 gallons

I bought replacement fuel sending units and got the gauges to work. But now the engine idles lower than the normal 750rpm (The idle problem popped up after I replaced the unit on the driver’s side).

I also have trouble starting up the car when the engine is warm. For example, after stopping at a gas station to get a drink, I started my car, but then the RPM’s just dropped and the engine died. It did this a couple of times until I just revved the engine after starting it, then things were fine…

And does anyone know why I would run out of gas only after 9 gallons? I only get ~200 miles to the tank which is really annoying since I know it has a 16 gallon tank and people normally get 300+ miles…

O yeah, the fuel pump starts getting REALLY noisy when I reach ~160 miles on the tank.

I took it to a local shop, which told me the local dealer would probably diagnose this issue best. The dealer said it’d cost between 81-160 dollars JUST to find what’s wrong. (I’m in college and my last paycheck was $134), which is why I’m coming to y’all!

    IMO a leaky injector problem

1/ running too rich will use more gas
2/ if they leaks during a lil brake and will start the eng. with a very rich mixture

hmm but that doesnt account for why i top off at 9 gallons at the gas station... i ran outta gas once in a parking lot. took my gas can accross the street, put in 1 gallon, drove there. topped off after i put in 8 more gallons.

You have a huge dent in the bottom of the tank? loll
Maybe that's got the fuel pickup all bent.

        Check your fuel pressure.

o dang. there IS a dent in the tank on the drivers side. its not that deep though. If it is the pickup thing, is there a way to fix it? or would you have to remove the tank/replace it.

Fuel pressure was a problem when I first got the car, but it was fixed with a new fuel pressure regulator. or so says the mechanics..
