    starting problems....HELP....

my euro 1989 325i has a problem ever since i picked it up and it's really starting to get on my nerves. this needs to be fixed.

it always takes 3 cranks on the starter before it will fire up. no matter how long you hold the starter on, it ALWAYS takes 3 goes before it will fire.
starting it in the morning when the engine is cold is not a problem, goes first time. it also fires up fine when fully up to temperature, but leave it 15-20 minutes to cool down and it's back to the old 3 turns.
so basically, unless it's fully hot, or fully cold, it struggles to turn over.

i've tried changing everything i can think of to get to the bottom of this including:

    thermostat,
    plugs,
    ICV (idle control valve),
    EMU (engine management unit),
    AFM (air flow meter),
    air filter,

i've taken readings from the temperature sensor and it seems to be giving readings within reasonable limits when compared to my friends car, so hasn't been changed (yet).

    HELP....IT'S DRIVING ME MAD..

i have the exact same problem, although mine takes more than three cranks somewhere from 5 to 8 sometimes.
      So far ive replaced

      Plugs
      Distributor Cap
      Ignition Rotor
      Ignition Coil

i was told by a local autoparts store that my fuel pump may not be holding pressure.

      Any help is appreciated
