some General Automatic e30 questions

Which ecu did autos have? 153? does it not matter between transmissions?


Also, my main question. If i have a Guage cluster from an auto, can i put that in my same model e30, but 5-speed? Both are vdo clusters.

The DME and cluster is a function of the engine, not the transmission. The DME & cluster for a ETA is different from that for an I/IS (M20B27 vs M20B25). it doesn't matter whether those cars had manual or automatic transmissions.

wasnt sure if i needed to change the coding plug or not before i swapped in to see if my potentially new m20 really has 120 or not.. if the odometer works or not.
(and also replace my dying cluster, with hopefully a fully functioning one.)

unless you had the computerised auto transmission. I don't think the states got it anyway

So the Tachometer does not work on my new cluster. I also tried changing the coding plugs.
my manual car is < 87, and the cluster is from an auto > 87.

Everything else works, si board, gas, and temp. i didnt try the speedometer or odometer though.

Any more Ideas on the Tachometer not working?

i just tore into the two clusters last night.

B/w early and late models, there is some small differences. but i think the tach in my new cluster just didnt work, thats all.

i now have a fully working cluster again. with better lighting and all!
