dist cap and rotor hitting each other?

so while i was listening for vacuum leaks earlier, i would pull the throttle to listen to the intake stuff. i heard a really strange noise.

it sounds like it comes from the dist housing. and it seriously sounds like the cap and rotor or the rotor and something are making contact.
IT only happens when firs starting to rev, coming onto the throttle it makes it.. then it goes away after you increase rpms..
    Any ideas on this?

Should i tear apart the front end to check on it? its such a PITA to get to..
apparently it has to have been like this for a few months, since all i can think of is when i loosened the top two timing cover bolts and pulled it and the lift hook forward to get better access to something on the front of the head. Did this possibly bend something??? crap!

I can definitely hear an intake leak too though..

Pull the distributor cap off and make sure that the rotor screws are tight.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

just did a tune up on my car and i'm afraid the rotor is loose because i can hear a noise coming from that area as well but as you said is a pita to take out

How is it a PITA? You should be able to pull the cap and rotor without removing the radiator.

FYI I had this happen to me once. It was the torx bolt that goes through the cam gear that had come loose, causing the rotor to wobble as it went around and take little chunks out of the cap terminals. Check that and the rotor retaining screws.
