    rebuilding a LSD

What is involved with rebuilding a LSD diff? Is this something that I can do by myself, or do I need to take it to someone else? Thank you.

Depends on what you mean by Rebuild? Just replace the seals? Tear it down and replace all the gears? Modify the lock up? Replacing the seals you can do anything else have a shop do it.

I'm looking to buy a used LSD from an '88 325is, but I don't know how many miles are on it and what condition it's in. What usually wears out in the diff? just the seals? or anything else?

If you're buying a used lsd get at least a 90 day warranty.
