Best way to remove tar residue

I removed my trunk tar (it easily peeled off), but it left behind a small, patchy layer of black tar. Is there a way to get this off and still preserve the paint underneath it. Threads I've searched mention torches and dry ice, but it seems like this would damage the paint.

    use laquer thinner.

good luck with the paint thinner you'll be using.

... if you've already removed the tar, you might try a product like goof off or goo gone.

The thinner will have absolutely none or very very little effect on 14yr old well cured factory paint. Trust me...

yeah lacquer thinner will work fine, I use it everyday at work. it works best if you soak the end of a terry cloth and apply it that way

Mineral spirts work awesome...and not as hard on the paint (I think, but not sure)

I did my at my appartment comples, people walking by though I was cleaning out blood or something from the trunk...it was weird.
