Can it be done... Muffler rust prevention?

I just picked up a Bosal muffler today. I know it may not be the best as OEM, but I need something to get of the rust bucket Ansa the PO had put on. So my question is this. Are there any sprays or anything I can put on the muffler and pipes to prevent it from an early rusty death? Like Rust-Oleum or something? And it probably has to be a high temp kinda thing right? Got any suggestions? I think I want to paint it a flat black anyways, as I dont really like the alum. look.

    Thanks

i used high temp grill (like BBQ grill) paint. You can find it at any hardware store, walmart, whatever.

does it prevent rust, or is that just for the looks?

edit: i should have said, "does it slow rusting, or is that only for looks?"

if you do a lot of short trips like hardly enough to get the car warmed up i wouldn't worry about painting it
it'll only rust on the inside from the condensation
if get the car up to temperature most of the time then BBQ paint is the way to go that or maybe power coat :P
