    Need electrical assistance

ok so dont laugh at the pic, its the best i can come up with...
installing a new set of H4 higher wattage bulbs, wiring, mini fuse block, relays, and connectors.

I do not understand why they wont turn on, the relay does not click when i hit the low beam switch. I am using the factory recepticle that normally plugs into the bulb as the switch.

Oddly enough, if i take out the switch and plug a bulb into say the passenger side, then the drivers side light works. I am beyond stumped. The relays are grounded straight to the battery just to prove they were getting a good ground. I am going to go back and make the actual bulbs grounded to the battery to double check even though i was getting continuity between the bulb ground and another chassis point.

The ONLY thing i can think of is that the high beam circuit needs to be wired up. I did not wire the high beam of the H4 bulb because i was never going to use it.

Hopefully this pic makes sense lol

Okay, so you're using the low beam + pin in your factory headlight connectors to energize the relays for your new low beams.

You say: "Oddly enough, if i take out the switch and plug a bulb into say the passenger side, then the drivers side light works."

By saying this I assume you mean that if you disconnect the + wires routed from the low beam pins in your factory plugs to the 86 terminals on your new relays and plug the H4's into your new connectors, one of them turns on.

If that is the case, then your actual wiring does not match your diagram- if you plug the H4's into your new connectors and they light up without the relays being energized then something's awry.

OP, there's no need to upgrade the wiring harness to bump up the bulb wattage. That's why they use a relay instead of running the current through the switch in the passenger compartment. Unless you're going beyond stupid, all you need to do is put in an appropriately sized fuse for the current you'll be pulling. I run 80/100w H4 bulbs in my 2002, and it never had any issues.

Unless you're going beyond 90/130w bulbs, I would put it back the way it was, and at most, upgrade the wire gauge, one wire at a time (makes it pretty hard to get stupid).

Side note, your drawing is painful to look at. I'd hate to see your version of this:

thanks guys, i am using 100/130w bulbs. I put a 8 amp fuse inline before the new relays i installed.
i was using the factory receptacle as the switch like you pointed out. I am going to go back in and triple check everything and report back.

Why do you show ground on both 85 and 86?

86 circuit is a jumper wire from the top old receptacle to the new relay 86 pin, if that helps.
To see which one was the low beam side i just used jumper wires with male spades attached to the bulbs with female spades, and turned just low beam on. Made sure the side wire, brown, obviously ground was just ground.
I was told that i dont need to ground the old receptacle since the relay is being grounded.

            thanks

Ah, yes I see. I was remembering the bottom pin as ground.

Let me get this straight: you have +12V on 86, ground on 85, +12V on 30 and your output is 87, right?

              What are you testing with?
