    Which blower motor to order?

Last night when driving I hit a bump and the blower motor started to squeak. i changed the blower speed to get rid of the noise when it finally went away.

After going online and from experience with my 86 325es, i recall there are in fact 3 different motors to choose from. I visited a few different sites (realoem etc) to see what they recommended for my prod date. After this was useless, i called 2 different bmw dealerships, both of which gave me different part numbers (and when googling the part numbers I got 2 very discinctly looking blower motors.)

how do I knwo wheich one I have? should I just remove my old one and look for the part number or is there an easier way?

    thanks in advance

Hold on a sec, if I know which heater core I have (from the PO's reciepts indicating which one was put in the car), I should be able to deduce which fan motor i need....correct?

After some digging I realised that the PO replaced the heater core with a 391 363 unit, and a 468 530 water valve, which translates to an alum. inlet heater core. As a result this heater core requires the more $$ blower motor.

Some earlier models came with the smaller diameter long fan baskets and split production dates came with either the long fan baskets or the larger diameter short baskets. The only way to know for sure is the take the cover off and look. While you're in there give the bearing surfaces a good dose of Krown or some penetrating lube; that would hold off the squeaking for a while perhaps even permanently. Mine is doing this intermittently. Not an uncommon problem.
