    motor mont is trashed..

well, today i jacked my car up to change oil, and see where the new "bellhousing" oil leak is coming from, could not find where it was coming from, it was ust slowly seeping out of the little hole in bottome of bellhousing....

well long story short, i noticed that my passenger motor mount is sheared in half... grrr,, probly due to the roughness of not have an eccentrict sn a valve *cough* *growl* but yeh, what should i check on when i install a new one.. could this have busted the rear main seal in the crank...

anyway just jack up engine, take old mount of, put new one in right.. thanks..

question, i have heard mounts from other cars (7's and 5's) will work better then the m20 mounts, anyone heard the same?

            E12 530i or 528i mounts.

And like trent said, don't go after the guy saying he's responsible for your mount. I'd make a bet that 99% of E30s on this board need new mounts if they haven't been already changed. They all do that.

I had a close call, fan brushed the radiator some, hopefully it will last a few more months. Motor mounts sheered aswell.

great thanks, sry i guess i was just a little ticked last night...

anyway, thank god my motor did not ram into my raditor, it does look like its barly sitting on my steering rack, now the leak i had in it, has gotten bigger... god i have so many leaks lol.. 2 big ones, (oil) and another mid one (power steering).. oky doky, so e12 520's will fit directly in with no probs. i'll get a price on those as wello, see if they are same price.. would get some poly urathanes, but there so expensive lol

my god, what a pain.. i figured it would only take a few mintues.. but* it took 45.. i ran to work (knew they had a floor jack) and did it in the parking lot.. diod not ahve time to let headers cool, so burned my finger first try lol.. anyway, finally got underneath the car after jacking up engine.,. and it was in 2 pieces, and what a pain to hold the left over rubber and try to turn nut at same time,,, thing that took me the longest was, the engine would not come straight down on the bolt, had to sit there screwing with jcak (up down, kick, up, kcik, turn down) for about 25 mins until finally! got it..

PS. after lfiting engine, the heat sheild fell off... and i cannot for the life of me figure out where the f** it hooks to, i wrapped the mount in aluminum foil,, (i know i know) anyone got a pic of the heat shield while on the car, wtf does it hook to, i did not pay attention to it while taking the bottom ut off...

                            The little heat shield?

Has two small bolts with nuts and only really goes one way onto the passenger side motormount, I'm sure you can get to it like I did, removing the coolant overflow/tank may help.

Are you talking about the black metal plate that has the heat shield bolted to it? It hooks to the lip on the subframe and has the mount stud going thru it to hold it in place. Those are important, they prevent the the motor from sliding back and breaking the mount again, just like the bumper on the tranny prevents it from sliding forward.
