    Question involving driveshaft.

    The two pieces:

Firstly, for those whom have taken out your driveshafts ( auto tranny owners would probably be more helpful ) what is the easiest way to get it back in? Seperatly or as one? I've been trying a few different ways with the front shaft and can't find a good way really, it's being a pain because I'm trying without jacking the car up because I want to put it in before I put the tranny brace with new mounts on because I have to fiddle with my shift linkage (won't go into park).

Does the clip thingy (forgot official name) simply hold the shafts together?
Because from the looks of it the Bentley and simply trying the spline won't go into the rear shaft...if this is the case I need a new clipy thing because the rubber inside of mine fell all apart.

TIA. I want to drive it already, just need to know the easiest/quickest way to get the driveshaft in. Sorry if this is jibberishh I've got to finish up a paper and some thigns.

Ok, first - did you mark the driveshaft so you put it together in the right orientation? If you didn't, it may be offbalance. This would cause massive vibration along with probably a CSB that would go out very quickly and possibly hurt the u-joint.

The driveshaft is easy to take out and put in. basically, losen the screw that goes around the spline, and the push the two halves together closer. Then sorta tilt the shaft a little, making a slight V. line up both ends, screw in the CSB, then make sure everything lines up and fits.

The two halves will comes apart a little, to fill the gap. then tighten the bolt around the spline, and you'll be all done - (minus bolts on output shaft and differential)

I'm about 99% sure I've got it lined up right, and it makes sense since there already are marks on it. Don't worry about me on that. :P I just am not sure if I have the CSB as far up on the shaft as it should be, it almost seems it can slide another half an inch or so, but I read somewhere I don't want to preload it or something...so I haven't whipped out the big hammer yet.

By screw you mean that center clip that is threaded? It simply screws in as much as the thread will allow? So the spline doesn't actually go into the rear shaft? That is what my main concern was. I have a feeling I'll need a new center bolt/screw/clip thing since the rubber inside of mine fell apart, or can I get away without it?...since I plan on not keeping the auto tranny for too long. Easiest to put them together from the center tighten the center threaded clip, then simply bolt the front and rear flanges? Awesome.

Blah, I'm sure I'd figure it out I just want to get this done and drive my car, I miss it. Not having alot of time during the week for it can suck sometimes.

Yea, I'm talkin about the center threaded thing - maybe called a lock collar? I'm not sure. Tightening it will just keep the driveshafts from wanting to seperate if you pull on one end. I don't think I tightened mine enough, and when I pulled out my diff, my driveshaft started coming out - meaning the splines had begun to seperate.
