Blower/HVAC Fan : Ticks at Low Speed

On fan speed 1 and 2 the fan makes a ticking sound. I can hear it easily in the driver's seat. Sounds as if it is coming from the steering wheel area or below. When I turn to fan speed 3 and 4 the noise either goes away or it is negated by the louder sounds of the air rushing. Not sure which one.

Anything to remedy this short of turning the radio up?

Not really. Usually the ticking is one of 2 things: the brushes in the blower motor are basically worn out and are skipping on the armature segments, or the fan has come out of alignment and is hitting the housing. Both are pretty common.

Be glad it's just ticking, mine squeals like stuck pig on low, the fucking bushings are shot and no amount of lube will fix it for longer than a week.

Or it could be something that has fallen into the blower housing or broken impellers.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

          clicking at speed

I spent some time trying to fix this clicking noise. What I found was the brushes/holder were worn and moving this around could/did stop or start the noise AND cause the motor speed to labor or wind up. I carefully zip tied both wires in place on the attachment spring to quite my fan motor. This worked for me. Good Luck Joe

My blower motor was squealing like crazy, Took some lithium grease spray and sprayed liberally on all the points where the fan shafts go through rotating points. Manually spin, spray , manually spin spray etc. Hasn't squealed in over a month now.
