    buying second hand '88 325

i found an '88 325 for sale from the first owner. the outside is in great condition but i'm concerned about under the hood. i'm planning to take the car around europe in july so i want to make sure it'll make it. i found 2 major recalls/service bullitins online and am wondering if these are common problems for other people:
    1. increased coolant temperature
    2. transmission control module fault code 40
also, i'm having a mechanic look at the car to figure out major problems. however, i'm interested in a general checklist, for this particular model, on things that happen at about 160,000km. also, it's black/black and i'm paying approximately $3,600. is this a good deal?

Does the previous owner have all the service records?

When was the timing belt changed?

Has it had a recent tune up?

You've taken the best route by having a mechanic look at it. ;)

owner claims it's in working order

but by the look of the gargage, it appears he does repairs and services at home. i had a look at the old parts he's replaced and all wear and tear appears normal.
timing belt is one year old and the tune up was earlier this year according to him. i don't want to offend, so mechanic can verify, etc.
for a 325 that's well taken care of, what things are normally changed at this milage? can i assume that there are no major overhauls necessary in the next year according to other owners that have taken care of similar models?
thanks for helping out a female amateur.

If I where you; I would change the timing belt as soon as you got the car.
