    To those who did the M30 AFM swap

    Do you guys change EVERYTHING from one AFM to the other or just the circuit board?

    I read the Dave's AFM article, but I recall someone saying not to mess with the gears on the M30 AFM.

    Thanks,
    Erick

    i had m30 afm lyin around. Plugged it in on a local members E30 its started no problem but i needed to adjust the idle on it. so if u have 027 afm it should work u might need to adjust the idlin on it.

      Well I'm just doing the circuit board and lets see how it works. I've been thinking about this but I havent tried it yet:

      Does the intake boot fit the m30 AFM being relatively bigger than the m20 one?

        bad plan.

        you cant do that.
        The ECU will think its getting the volume of air from a stock M20 AFM.
        You are really feeding it a larger volume of air since its the m30 AFM.

        This = Lean condition
        Lean = bad.

        you already have moronic 1.3 in your car Erik, so find a 1.3M m30 afm, and that will plug right in.
        Below the radar...

          I plan to do this once I go to a junk yard and grab the m30 one. My afm now is a lil funky.

          Id also do it when I have injectors though.

          Sold it.

            hmmm I doubt e28s have 1.3 motronics. The AFM donor was an e28.

              No u need to strech (heat/fire) the boot it wont fit it.

                what do you guys think is the best way to deal with the whole boot being to small problem... should I heat and streach the boot, or should I try and make somehting else like the aluminum elbow in Davelength.com.

                basically my question is, will i be restricting the amount of air to my engine by using the boot that was really made for the amount of air being passed through the m20 afm

                thanks

                  Dave Ireland told me just throw a new boot into some boiling water to heat it up and stretch it over the m30 afm. You won't be restricting anything since the AFM hole is still smaller than the boot.

                        If you get a 027 M30 AFM, it's a direct plug in

                        As far as the boot guys, use a ehat gun and ehat up the end that goes on the AFM, you should be able to get it on no problem after that.

                          Or just be a man and use a screwdriver and no heat to stretch it.

                          Pussies. Summer's Eve has its new warming solution for you. But you shouldn't need the heat to get it......just your manhood and a flathead.
