    Hardwiring V1

I'm trying to hardwire my new V1, I'd like to use the check control panel in front of the sunroof crank. I dont have the full panel since I have a 318is, but I know its got power since it shows an SRS light due to my aftermarket wheel.

Anyone know off hand which wires I should tap into? I'm out there with a voltmeter experimenting, but maybe someone can save me the trouble.

    available wires are:
    brown/black
    Purple
    Green/white
    Brown/Purple

    Thanks

There has been a TON of write-ups on how to do this, I used to have one but when I reformatted, I lost it. Try a google search or maybe on DTMPower, I think that's where I found it.

There is a wiring diagram but I can't tell if it's for the E36 or the E30 318is.
But from it it looks like Grn-white would be a switched 12 volt wire. I'd still use a volt meter to test.

according to my voltmeter, i dont have enough juice up there, i guess since i dont have the real check control panel or power sunroof. cig lighter will suffice

Ya the cog lighter is wonderful, I've got my Air fuel ratio guage wired off it and my radio wired of some other 12 volt source under the kick panel. I'd check soem of those empty plugs under there as then you wouldn't need to run as much wire up to the headliner.

i wired my detector off one of the stereo leads, so it turns on w/ the ignition... originally i did it off the cigarette lighter, but i found out that has power goin to it even w/o the key in the ignition

I used that little accessory add on box next to the fuse box to hardwire my radar detector. I had to run a bit of wire through the firewall, but I figured it was easier than testing a bunch of wires inside the car. There are two wires that go into that box, on mine the red is always hot and the green is hot with the ignition on.

thats a good idea, where'd you run the wires through the firewall? and are those accessory plugs constant on or ignition on?

If you look down underneath the brake booster there should be a couple of holes you can feed it through. Take off the panels under the steering wheel and you will see a big rubber piece with a bunch of wires coming through. I cut a small slit in an extra part of that rubber piece to get the wire through. I also used some of that plastic wire wrap to protect the wire a little bit. One of the accessory plugs is constant on(red on mine) and the other is ignition on(green on mine). I'll take a picture and hopefully post it tomorrow night after I get home from school.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to take a pic yet. I'll take one this afternoon and post it as soon as I can.
