    fuel gauge problem

    My gas gauge doesnt work....or at least most of the time. When the tank is full the gauge kind of works. It moves back and forth but as the tank lowers the gauge dies. It moves then i make sharp left turns. I think I need anew fuel sending unit but im not sure. Any information would be great. Thanks

    yeah you do, you pull the back seat off and check the connection first if its bad then take off the 4 nuts and pull it out or 2 nuts can't remember..

      I was looking through a parts site and here was somthing about left and right sending units....which one do i get

        also when repacing the sending unit is the o ring it comes with the same o ring that seals he cap?

            I'm having the same problems. On mine it's like - When I fill up the tank my gauge will indicate a full tank. But it will go down to the "r" very quickly, as in, the next few days. Sometimes I can just sit there and watch the needle position go up and down little bits. And then after about 75 miles or so, the needle will be all the way down as if I should be out of gas, but my light doesn't come on. Does this sound like the sending unit also?

              My 90 has two sending units, one in the pump assembly, one alone on the drivers side. Silly system, but it works. The one on the right contains the low fuel light switch, is sealed, small, three wires. One on the left is like a 3/4 size version of the one older Mercedes use, larger than the right one, alone, and you can disasemble it and GENTLY clean/examine/repair the hair frickin thin wires in it. Hook them both up and test em when there out. Turn key on, hook up sender, move the float up and down, observe gauge. One at a time will only move the gauge half way up at it's highest float position, and both must be hooked up to work. With ohm specs, a meter, and some resistors one could make a good test setup/calibrate things. After a good cleaning mine works pretty well.
