Help re performance chip

I recently purchased a ProFormance chip for my M40B18 e30. After installing it, I started the car and the idle just hunts/revs between 1200 - 1700 rpm constantly. The seller suggested disconnecting the battery for 30 mins to reset the ECU, but that didn't work either.

He's now suggesting adjusting the throttle adjustment linkage, then driving the car abit to relearn the new mappings

Is this normal for a new chip or should I be seeking a refund?

not normal. if the chip is all you changed, somethings wrong.

Yes, chip is all I changed.
I popped the old stock chip back in and the car is back to normal. Pop in the new chip again and its the same thing, revs keep jumping up and down. Left it idling for about 20 minutes to see if it settles and it did not.

A performance chip can make what were unnoticable faults evident. In particular the engine will become more sensitive to intake leaks or dirty injectors. Drive the car for 50miles or more and see if the idle settles down. If it doesn't have a smoke test run on the intake to see if there are any intake leaks.

I did read that you need to drive the car abit for the new chip to "learn" its mappings.
But as the revs were hunting between 1200-1700, I didn't think it was safe to attempt to do so. Would it harm the driveline/engine/etc in anyway to try driving while its still reving up and down?

I did check for intake leaks, but as far as I can find, not any.

It won't hurt anything to drive the car with a high or unstable idle.
