    Cooling Problem.....Help!!!

My 89 325ic coolant temperature has been in the 3/4 range in stop and go traffic. It hasnt gone to red. This cause my auxiliary fan to turn on most of the time during driving. The coolant temperature would go back to 1/2 way when cruisin on the highway.

I just replaced the thermostat (71 degrees).
Flushed/bled the cooling system and put a new coolant.

any suggestion whats causing this problem?

    thanks in advance

Check to make sure that your fan clutch is working right. I've heard that one easy way to check it is to start the car and let it get to normal temps where the clutch should engage. Take some rolled up newspaper and stick it into the fan. If it slows down, the clutch isn't engaging and needs to be replaced with a new one or you could replace the whole fan/clutch assembly with an electric fan.

My engine was doing the same thing. I found I could stop the fan with my finger. I don't recommend trying that, it was just that bad. The fan shouldn't stop when you stick something like a magazine or rolled up newspaper in it. New fan clutch is about $50.
