    Oil additives..

In short, I'm burning oil. My piston rings are slightly shitting the bed but there's still a lot of life left. I'd like to use this engine until the summer when I get a new engine. Changing the rings or getting another long block is out of the question since I don't have the place, time, or weather to do it. My oil burning consumption is somewhat annoying to have to put a quart and some more a month.
I'm just curious, is there anything I can really add to the oil to reduce the burning, or (and I'm using this very loosely) "slightly fix" the piston ring gap? Like seafoam or marvel mystery oil? If there's not, I don't really care, just curious, as I'm going to switch over to Rotella soon.

seafoam will thin it out more but clean your engine. only use seafoam right before an oil change and dont drive it, just let it idle for like 20 mins and then drain the old oil and seafoam out.

i would recomend lucas oil stabilizer. helps my m42 keep from using so much oil, and lucas is good shit.

A very generic Advance Auto Parts "high mileage" 20W-50. Bad, I know, that's why I want to switch over to Rotella.

run some rottella 15-40 if you must, with half a qaurt of lucas oil stabilizer. it will slow your oil burning.

Nope I come back Saturday night! Oddly enough I bought you some coffee powder today haha.

Like I said, a generic Advance Auto Parts 20W-50. A litttttttttle leakage that just accumulates around the oil pan and drips like twice a day. Nothing that would cause a >quart loss a month though, I can see a somewhat blue exhaust tint

The first thing to do would be to run dry and wet compression tests. That will tell you if the oil loss is via the rings or somewhere else. If it is the rings, nothing you can add to the oil is going to help much at all.

My guess is that most of the oil use is from leaks and bad valve seals, not the rings. But the compression tests will tell.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yep, that's exactly what I was planning to run! I've heard good reviews about Rotella with lucas. thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's the rings, when I was swapping out the HG I noticed a considerable amount of horizontal play in the pistons.
However, for now, I don't think it's necessary to do a compression test as I don't plan on using this motor for too much longer so opening it up to fix something will be fruitless. I will however change out the oil pan gasket because it is leaking a little, like two drips a day, which contributes to my oil disappearing on me. Thanks!

generic 'high mileage' 20w50 isn't all that bad of an oil.

Rotella 15w40 is great stuff, but I'm not sure it will help much, maybe it wil help prevent further damage

Lucas is OK, it will help with valve-stem seal leakage somewhat
