Well since different cars have different transmissions, so that is a big factor in the feel.

The M roadster probably feels a lot shorter than the 2.5 Z4, and marginally shorter than my 3.0 z4, is just leverage.

I am loving the shifter, sort of worn in, and i've gotten used to it, and I'm enjoying it immensely

here's a 1st-N-2nd pic of my Z4 2.5 lever. (type in ".orig.jpg" at the end of the url for a higher res shot)

what shift knob is that? do you have a top picture of it so i can see the pattern as well? What is the difference in feel/shortness between the 2.5 and 3.0. This sounds like a real easy cheap mod that is nice to have.

If you look at the picture of all the levers on page one, you'll see that the Z4 levers are identical height wise.

above the ball it is the same, but not below. when i said feel/shortness i was talking about the shortness of the throws...not the height of the knob in the car. Sorry for not clarifying it.

no worries. the 3.0 throws will be much shorter, higher effort, and notchier.

when you get a chance you can post pics of 1st-neutral-2nd? also i cannot find the z4 3.0 shifter on bmaautoparts.com. I searched for the part number. Is there a link directly to the shifter? did you get all your parts at bma or just the shifter rod?

got everything from BMA. Call, ask for Pat, and make sure to specify which rod you want.

I'll work on the picture tomorrow

Well, there was two possibilities: 1) different cars = different geometry/transmissions and feel altogether 2) geometry similar, lever the determining factor.....

anyway, the M roadster is crazy short and notchy. not that that is all bad!

but I'm not sure great for daily driving and such. smoothness for pussies, right?

I wish I could drive a M roadster for a week and see how I could live with the shifter, but I don't think that's happening.

Rob, from 1-10 rate the annoyance of the notchiness......if you were in stop and go. and also 1-10 the coolness, crispness of the new shifter.....and why not #3, 1-10 on difficulty of knowing what gear you are in. (I drove this UUC SSK'ed M3 and could tell at all whenever it was 4th or neutral)

                  thanks

so out of all these levers,
                    which is the highest?
which one is the highest effort?
                    which reduces throw the most?

i want a lever that i don't lose height one but has a shorter knotcher thorw.

                    thanks guys

actually, by my definition, smoothness=vagueness (therefore definately for pussies) and notchiness=precise

For me, the 3.0's notchiness is not annoying at all, I enjoy it. I always know what gear I am in, I've just gotten used to it. My girlfriend drove the car, and had a little trouble, because a- she's a girl and b- it was the first time she'd driven with the SSK.

Honestly, it just takes a little getting used to, after that, you wont want to go back...

alright, you convinced me. I enjoyed very much driving the notchy short throw. But I wasn't sure if I could enjoy it all the time.

                          thanks!

                            cam,
refer to the picture of the different shifters of page one. The length above the ball determines the actual height of the shifter, and the length below the ball determines the shortness of the throw (longer=shorter)

I also just put in a Z4 3.0 ssk and i must say it is superb. I have gotten use to the notchiness and i am now in love. I cant imagine anything felling better. I also love the height compared to stock, looks and feels ten times better.
