picked up a 1985 318i with 129k on the speed. Of course this forum helped once i picked it up to replace the VDO gears in the cluster to get it running again. and from the 2 weeks that I've owned the 318i..I have spent countless hours reasearching the IDLE issue it has...sigh*
But regardless, I will slowly build it back to the point realiable. So here are a few pics since I had the day off.
orderd the control arm, CAB, sway barlinks, tie rods from FCP Groton. I think for the price its built pretty tough. we'll see how long they last.
between replacing the antenna, waiting for the shifter parts (z4), water pump , thermo, debating between SACH or Bilstein. I have a decent amount of project work ahead.
so lets begin...

New.

Old

I cut a tubing that was teh same size as the lollipop and another piece for the inner diameter to press out the old busing

finding the right tube was the hard part...I had way too many

first I weld the tube to the anvil to try hammering out the bushing...that didnt work too well

between using the press to extract...I laid a flat piece in front of the bushing to press it in the carrier.

that worked!

forgot to mention...yes there is a marking on the carrier and I simply mimiced the positon of the bushing like the old.

my kitchen fork for control arm removal

the driver side 22mm nut was a pita...could get a socket in there so i used this..with a socket at the end to turn it into a decent Breaker bar.

this was the passenger side.
the E30 CAB is a lot more forgiving than the last E46 I installed.
took me a few hours..but all in a days work.
here are some pics of the ride.

still need cleaning
