    Pulse generator

Any one know if the ring the pulse genterator reads off for the spedo and Odometer is the same on late modle cars and early?

I have a 86 built 87 325is with a 3,73 and a bearing started making noise, so I swaped for a late model 90 3.73 it had a differnt pulse genterator. I changed it to the one my car came with but now I have no odometer it worked till I pulled the diff when I hooked it back up I have nothing. But my spedo still works?

Unless the cluster gears gave out at the moment I test drove the car with the new diff?

As far as I know, the sector ring in the differential is the same.

Since the speedometer works, the sensor in the differential is working. Your problem lies in the odometer and is probably failed gears.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
