    Am I missing something?

I'm kind of new to all things E30 although I already have two. Anyway, I was going to do an oil change and the '87 325e and I noticed a leak. Put it up on jacks and found this. What is going on here? Forgive the crap quality.

Rear main engine seal/oil pan gasket or front pump seal on the transmission.

      A few more questions.
Should I be driving it like this?
What is it supposed to look like?

Since its a e30, thats what its suposed to look like... most e30s leak somewhere. But you are fine to drive it, just keep an eye on the oil level, it doesnt look too bad.

What does the engine look like? If it is wet with oil the oil on the bell housing and transmission could be from the engine rather than the main seal or transmission.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Well the whole bay needs to be cleaned. But I saw oil drip from that spot when I got her off the ground.

That big hole in the bottom of the transmission is fine, thats just the way they made them. Just make sure you leave the plastic "cage" on there.
