    a/c blows hot

well the first day over 90* hit today and it was miserable driving my dschwarz m3 without any a/c.

2 months ago my friend and I fixed my a/c. the clutch wasn't engaging until we found that the overtemp switch had failed open. with that jumped we pulled a vacuum and recharged w/ r12. this was using a real a/c machine btw. it blew cold and i was happy. haven't turned it on since.

so on sunday i tried running my a/c and noticed the clutch wasn't engaging anymore. i checked all the wiring, but it was fine. the clutch engages if i jump the low pressure switch so i'm thinking i have a leak somewhere. i haven't taken it back to my friend yet, but i'm guessing i have a leaking hose or o-rings. has anyone ever replaced the hoses or o-rings? i found the hoses in the ETK, but the o-ring locations are not specified just their sizes.

and assuming i fix up the leak, should i replace the drier/reciever or would pulling a vacuum for 60mins prior to recharging get all the moisture out? i've seen some mention that the new drier eliminates the low pressure switch, which seems odd. isn't it bad to run the compressor w/o refrigerant?

hey, i need a recharge too! im right next door to you in MD, and the heat was a killer. The combination of the humidity i suppose. But yeah, i need to get my shit recharged, and i dont think it has any leaks, but i cant be too sure. if it does leak, i will find out when it starts blowing hot again. but let me know where you were able to track down R12. im not too far, i would be up for a drive. thanks.

It doesn't eliminate it, they have combined a high/low switch into one much like on the radiator fan switch.

my friend works at a subaru dealer, so they have the equipment. when we recharged mine, dye was introduced too, so that should make it easy to spot the leak(s). assuming it hasnt been flung all over the engine bay.

You can still get R-12 in Cali if your a shop or have a 609 cert, just cost alot more then R134a. If you recharge your system and then look of the leak. Find the leak and replace the part that was leaking. You should only need to hold a vaccum for about 30mins to get all the moisture out. Then recharge with the proper level of R-12 and you'll be good to go.

                        i don't understand your question.

if there is "now freon" then if your electricals are all good and you have a good charge, push the a/c button

if you are trying to run the compressor with "no freon" jump the connectors on the low-press switch.

Which is why AC is such a pain in the ass. Even R134a is a little hit to the pocket.

But it's better than those Autozone "recharge it your self" 35$ kits.
