    Transmission Noises When Shifting

I have feeling this is a really bad thing. If the car is not running and I shift I can hear the transmission changing gears and I'm wondering if I need a new one or if I just need to change the transmission fluid. It is also hard to get it into 2nd, before and after I installed my short shifter. OR is this just something that always happens and I should just go back to ignoring it?

    Thanks!

You should be able to hear it change gears.
The synchro is probably worn on second, ignore it . If the fluid has never been changed, change it.

Ok, How do I change it? And I really hope it doesn't involve dropping it out...

There are two plugs on the transmission. Make sure you loosen the fill plug before the drain plug. You have the Bentley, right?
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

You'd have to pull the gearbox, open it up, and remove it. Not really a common do-it-yourselfer job.

Ha, Ya I did mean the fluid. OK sounds easy enough. I don't have a bentley yet, keep meaning to order one. But I do have some other manuals that probably cover it. Thanks!

It is really easy. First, remove the fill plug located on the side of the tranny. Then remove the drain plug on the bottom of the tranny. Let it drain for a few minutes. Replace the drain plug. Get a pump to pump tranny fluid into the tranny through the fill hole. It is full when it can't hold any more fluid. Replace the fill plug.

Remember that the car needs to be level when doing this.
